This website is meant for white people who want to delve into the issue of racism in the UK.
Though most people realise racism is still a big problem in the US, a lot of people seem to think the issue isn’t quite as big in the UK or in other places around the world. This is wrong. Racism has roots in the UK, dating back over 200 years and “it is estimated that Britain transported 3.1 million Africans (of whom 2.7 million arrived) to the British colonies in the Caribbean, North and South America and to other countries." during the slave trade. There is a long stream of history that stretches from the 1800s to the present day, littered with colonisation, systematic racism and police brutality against BIPOC living in the UK. Unfortunately, this kind of history is not taught to us in school, so we need to actively seek it out.
To be able to commit to the fight against racism in the UK, you must educate yourself. We have created a collection of books, podcasts, documentaries, articles, and social media accounts from a multitude of sources across the internet (which we all credited at the bottom of this page) into one place to help you get started.
We try to keep this page updated as often as we can, and any tips, ideas, additional content or improvements are highly welcome. Please, do get in touch.
